If you use a good two part primer you will only have a few days to get your top coat on it or you will have to sand it to get good adhesion.
Most primer has no UV protection and will not be water proof without a top coat. So maybe prime it and top coat with some cheap equipment paint until you have time to sand it down and do your body work.
