Depends on your usage plans I guess. If I was going for something to work out that was easily reversed, I'd use a single 3/16 steel sheet OVER the existing floor. More support that way. Take out about 6 bolts and extend them if needed. Carriage bolts are about the same height as the diamonds. They are self locking once you file the squares too.
