A member of the Forum bought the Vermont truck that was listed here with the rear belt pulley. I went and picked it up for him and then bought the truck (less the belt pulley) from him. The frame is pretty crispy, but the cab is in very good shape, the doors are the nicest I have seen, hood and radiator cowl are in great shape. The emblems are also about the nicest I have seen. The winch has some damage, but the bumpers are great. There is no bed. Radiator is full of antifreeze. The previous owner bought it to flip, and said he had tried to start it but it had no spark. Tonight my friend Neil and I set to work to see if it would wake up. We pulled the cap, and wiped a points file across the points. Then pulled the plugs and sandblasted them in the blast cabinet. Pulled the 2 glass bowls and cleaned them out. Both still had their original ceramic? filters. Rigged a temporary fuel tank and dripped some gas down the carb. It would turn over and try to pop, after a few minutes of that it caught and ran. Not only ran, but ran smoother than a lot of trucks I know! Idled nice, smooth revving. I am amazed at how well it runs. Cool! Put a bit of air in the front tires and decided it was time for a test drive. Pulled out the light switch and the one headlight came on! Extra cool! We backed out the shop and ran it up and down the driveway, went through all the gears, and then got stuck in the field in front of the shop. Pulled back the 4 by lever and out we came. Lots of fun.
Now, what to do with it. I am leaning towards parting it out, as the frame is shot. It would make an awesome start for someone if they had a frame to transplant parts onto. If this would be of interest to someone, drop me an email, we can discuss it.
Tim
