Is there supposed to be a different oil pressure relief/bypass mechanism for the civilian 230 versus the industrial/military one? The one out of my blown military engine looks just like in the TM. The spring is 1.5" long and the plunger is 1.44" x .50" with two grooves where it neck down to .375, one twice as long as the other. The spring pushes on the outside circumference of the drilled end of the plunger.

The valve out of my replacement engine (civilian) is entirely different. The spring is 1.80" long, the plunger is .993" long and .653" dia, has only one groove, which necks down to .500", and has a large bore in one end, .500" dia x .50" deep, which the spring fits into. On mine, there were 2 1/4" lock washers behind the spring, like someone was trying to increase the oil pressure.

What I'm wondering about is whether maybe some other part is missing, or the spring is wrong, which would explain the added washers. I don't have a manual or an exploded drawing of the civilian engine. Can someone explain to me how the civilian oil bypass valve is supposed to work and whether my spring sounds right? Thanks.
