2500 people die by fire in this country every year. Of 4,000,000 total deaths. Chances are 1/1600.

Traffic accidents kill 30,000. If dying smoke alarm batteries cause lack of sleep, which is a major cause of traffic deaths, then the smoke alarms may be a wash. And they sure do infringe on my life quality with their peeping.

And I'd rather prevent fire deaths by taking primary steps. I don't smoke, don't overload wiring, and have three full size fire bottles around the place.

Besides, carbon monoxide poisoning in your sleep is probably one of the better ways to go. Beats cancer or death by medical misadventure, don't it?
