Yes, you have it correct. You can remove the nuts from the present locations and replace with a stack of washers to make the heater sit level, then put the nuts on the engine side of the firewall.

As you can probably tell, these MoPar Deluxe heaters were kind of a one-kind-fits-all generic heater. They were originally made to fit the pre 1939 slanted firewalls (I believe I got that date correct). When the new model cars and trucks came out, and later the Power-Wagon, they added the sheetmetal "wedge" to adapt them to vertical fire walls. Dodge did not have a truck specific heater until the Model 61.

The only things I see that you may be missing are the washers that will go under the nuts on the engine side of the firewall. Daryl linked to a photo and described some parts that I have never seen. The MoPar Deluxe heaters I have seen installed years ago used square sheetmetal washers bent into a shallow hat-channel, or U-shape, under those nuts. The short "legs" of the hat channels kind of bite into the firewall and help to keep from flattening the firewall stiffening ribs if you happen to mount the heater directly through one.

These heaters were all dealer and/or owner installed, so to see the different parts that Daryl showed does not surprise me.
