I do not accept returns, and have been selling on ebay since 1997. Here are some of the experiences which led me to this decision.

Back when you could sell guns, I sold an 1863 Springfield. It was a nice gun but had some defects- the stock had a small crack at the wrist that had not been repaired, there was no ramrod, and the hammer spring was weak. All of these items were photographed and/or described in the text. The gun sells, ships, and back comes an email: "I want to return it because the stock is cracked at the wrist, there's no ramrod, and the hammer spring is weak." I had already paid the consignor, so I told the person that I would take it back, and when it sold, I would refund his money. I never heard from him again.

I sold a field jacket to a guy in California. It was clearly marked, photographed, and written in the description that it was a size 38, the size of 90% of all WWII jackets. The guy got on the phone threatening to come visit me, go after my job, etc., if I didn't take it back because it didn't fit. It was another consignment item, and my consignor told me I couldn't fly to California and receive it in person, like I wanted. So the guy got his money back.

My point of view is that if you can't make a decision to purchase something based on information given, I don't want your business. If that means losing your subsequent business because you get buyers remorse after a purchase, so be it. I have taken items back because I put erroneous information into a description. But that's it, and I won't publish that policy on ebay due to the way they rig the feedback system like friending on facebook. If ebay had a real feedback system that allowed you to identify turds who don't do decent business, then I'd change to a reasonable return system. But I doubt that's going to happen.
