No different than a regular gun rack

Around here, we still have gun racks on the back window of our pickups, but they're getting less and less common. I use mine, but not when I'm going to be leaving my truck in a parking lot or at a trailhead for any length of time.

It seems to me there are three reasons to mount a rifle bracket on your M37. One is for authenticity for parades and shows. Another is if you're hunting and you get lucky and that elk or even grouse happens to appear on the road in front of you. Third is for defense/deterrence, in which case you're expecting to be in a bad situation and of course you would not let the gun out of your sight. I'm glad I live where all of those options are legal. There isn't even any legal requirement to keep ones guns locked up. On the other hand, I damn well WILL keep them locked up, hidden away, or within my sight at all time anyway.

Here's a bad scenario, not at all unlikely: You're our driving your M37 around just for fun with your Garand or AR-15 in the rifle bracket just for authenticity or whatever. You stop at the mini-mart to get a hot dog, use the can, or whatever, and when you come out one of the local punks is rummaging through your truck. You holler at him and out he comes with your rifle in hand. Around here, the result could range from your gun getting stolen to you getting shot. In other places, with stricter laws, you could get charged (or sued) for contributing to whatever crime this thief went on to commit using your gun. You can at least bet you'd get investigated upside down and sideways.

For parades and car shows, $100 will get you pretty authentic looking non-firing movie prop gun.
