The FFPW rear end is the left over off-set style of the 6x6 front rear. This allowed greater flexibilty for the FFPW in use by allowing a rear PTO driven shaft. Some have experinced breakage in the long axle shaft of the off-set, and converted to the centered WC 50-60 series rear end hoping to eliminate it.

Of all the pulling I've done on and off pavement, I haven't broken a shaft yet, so I can't tell you if it is truely a weak item or stressed item from poor maintenance that eventually gives way. Some have had problems with the short rear axle. If you not carefull, you can break any rear end axle from most manuf.
