When I was a kid, I had a 70 F100. Thats the way us kids used to check if the truck was charging or not. We would pull one of the battery cables off the battery and see if the truck would stay running. Mine did. It had a mechanical voltage regulator, so thats propably why it didn't fry it. One day I came out from school and the battery was so dead (shorted out turn signal switch, I had it out of the coloum and resting on the floor pluged in.) the truck wouldn't start, we tow started it. I made it about 1/4 mile before it died. I had to wait until I could get a jump start, but after the jump it ran and I drove it home.
