I don't have the engine manual, just the TM that says how to pull and install a complete powerplant. I'm figuring out most of it as I go, but I suspect there will be hidden things, as you put it, that I will get wrong. I already broke the dipstick tube, which I need for the replacement engine, and lost the crank pulley (or maybe a stray dog carried it off) and am finding the odd bolt or nut that I can't remember what it came off of.

The wrist pin of the busted piston had lots of rust pitting on it, and looks to have eaten its way through the bushing and then destroyed the piston. The oil pickup and the oil cross over pipe show rust too after I cleaned the oil off of them and I wouldn't think anything should rust when immersed in oil like that. I'm thinking the truck sat for a long time with water in the oil and various things rusted inside. Then when I started using it, the rusty parts commenced chewing things up.
