I recall somebody posting selling prices of trucks from the early '50s and the Dodges were roughly twice the price of the Fords and Chevys. That's why the farmers bought Fords and Chevys, while the PWs went to businesses like oil and gas prospectors, pipeline and powerline construction, and logging and mining companies.

If you start thinking about a modernized FFPW, after you meet modern smog, CAFE, lighting, rollover, seatbelt and airbag rules, etc, what do you have? A modern pickup with the sheetmetal bent in a slightly "retro" shape. That's it. In addition, the FFPW cab is too small for modern men, which is tough to admit but true. Anything anybody would try to do to "bring back" the old 1950s designs would end up compromising them so much that they would be unrecognizable. Part of what made the old ones great was that they were 99.9% pure steel, with no computers and almost no plastic. They were simple and tough. They were also loud and rough and short-lived if driven at freeway speeds for long distances.

"Trucks" these days come with carpet on the floors, padded everything, surround sound stereo systems, air conditioning, and windows that don't leak. On an old Dodge, a radio and a heater were high-end options, and nobody even thought about the rest of the stuff. We're living in the age of M16s with holographic sights and laser designators, while the FFPW is somewhere between a muzzleloader and a Winchester .45-70. In my view, you either love the old ones for what they are, or you go 100% modern. Compromise, like plastic and stainless steel on a gun, is for weenies.
