I've really been impressed with the talent on this forum for welding sheet metal, beds, bumpers, etc., but I'll address this to Paul in NY because of the samples restoring "Smokey" and the Carryall.
Questions:
1. How did you make such a precise cut joining the two pcs of the fender?
2. When you are welding 2 pcs together like this, do you butt them together or do you use a spacer clamp between the 2 pcs?
3. Do you use damp rags to cool the sheet metal as you are welding to prevent warping?

I ask because I will be welding new metal under the hinges on the cowl after I remove the windshield frame. Its the only rust on the body and should be fairly easy. I've been practicing and seem to have the best luck with a tight butt joint. (Even 72 year olds like tight butts).

Thanks for any suggestions from anyone.
Ron
