Gary,follow the Kohler manual to the "T". I have done a few of these engines and the one thing for sure is that you have to install the governor shaft and gear first. There is no way to get it in once the cam and lifters are in the way. If your engine has counterwieghts make sure you install them. Some guys say don't put them back in. I have done it both ways and was sorry I didn't re-install them. The engine will really shake without. Also pay attention to compression relief tab on the cam. Make sure it is adjusted and operating correctly. This will make starting much easier.
