Start by chasing the bolt holes with a bottoming tap. Then chase and lube the bolts themselves. Start with the center bolt, the one between spark plug holes 3 and 4.(at a low torque of say 40 ft.lbs) Then do the two bolts on either edge of the head on the same row as the first, so you have 3 in a row.
Repeat this process, first towards the front of the engine, then towards the rear. You are starting at the center and working your way to the ends.
Once you've torqued the head to 40#, repeat the process in 10-15# incriments until you reach your final torgue of 65-70 ft.lbs. Note: Before your final torquing
sequence, you shoud run your engine up to operating temp. and then shut it down. Final torque should be with the engine still warm.
