Lights dim on idle

I have owned a 1977 Power Wagon since 1982.I have never had alternator problems but the lights dim way down when the truck is idling. I know a small amount of dimming is normal. Ihave had three different alternators and three regulators and four batteries over the years. Has anyone had this problem?
