The kickdown linkage is VERY CRITICAL on a 727 or a 904. It adjusts the line pressure according to the throttle and the tranny then knows when to shift and down shift. Its not really all for downshift. If you tie the lever back all the way and go drive you will notice the tranny doesnt shift nice and easy but will run up to high rpms and then bang the next gear. If you dont have it on or adjusted right the tranny shifts to 3rd bingbangboom fast and the line pressures are not right and it slips.

Easiest way to adjust would be to pull the lever on the tranny all the way back and tie with a wire to hold all the way back. Then open your carb to WOT and then connect the kickdown and adjust. At WOT you want the lever on the tranny all the way back. Be sure things do not bind because this lever can hold the throttle wide open if something binds. Its not supposed to but it could. Thats what the littler slider on the linkage is to prevent but just be careful and make sure it all returns to idle.

There are 2 setups for this. The 1 piece and the 3 piece setups. All the pieces will work for small block or big block EXCEPT for the piece that goes on the intake manifold. THAT is small or big block specific. I have fought this battle 2 times going from a 2 barrel to 4 barrel on my small block and finding out my big block 440 on my D200 had the 1 piece kickdown that didnt work and converted it to the 3 piece.

The 3 piece system is harder to adjust then the 1 piece.
Hope that helps everyone!
What ever you do DO NOT RUN A 727 or 904 without the kickdown.
