I was faced with the "sealed bid" dillema when I placed a bid on my W-500 Firetruck.
I summed up the maximum amout that I could bid without going above what I felt it was "worth" as a Power Wagon, added a "buffer" amount and waited. It was a great feeling as Black Forest Chris will agree when they call you up and tell you that you won the bid !!
The BEST advice I can give anyone bidding on a firetruck -- and "sadly" I didn't take my own advice is to take an inventory of everything on the truck, take pictures, and submit a inventory list with your bid.
I lost some items that weren't included in the sale however as they said -- the "window-sticker" only listed the truck. (They did knock off my "buffer" amount since they removed the siren). I did lose a 40ft ladder though and they did swap a bent aluninum pike pole for the wooden one that was on it.
