What about tire size? My W500 has 9.00 x 20's and the NP540 OD trans. I can cruise at 65 at around 2800 rpm. You can even go up to 10.00 20's with a spacer to separate the rear wheels.
That seems a lot easier than changing axles. Cheaper too.
The Brownie box does sound like a good idea though. You sure don't need OD in 4x4.
