I'm all for doing what you can yourself but believe in the efficiency offered by experts in the trade. i am in the commercial trucking business and tire guys are held in high regard around here. i confirmed my respect for them when it came time to do the rims on my command car. they were not splits, but combats. they were rusted together, the tires were 'welded' to the rims AND the orig runflat rings were in place. bob stahl and I (99% bob) tried to remove the tires. first one took over an hour. tires 2-5 were done while we drank beer at lunch and let the heavy truck guy down the road do the work. we removed the nuts on the rims we took to the guy so he could just do his thing. best money i ever spent. now that the tires are clean and painted, servicing them is a pleasure. i can do it myself. guys that discourage others from trying are to be avoided, but guys that admit that some sort of repair is not from them are to be encouraged to expand their skills if they show an interest. i will never rebuild a carb or automatic transmission. i have NO interest in it. i have seen it done and that is good enough for me. i watched bob stahl rebuild my rear ends and am glad he did it. he had the tools, and i gained the knowledge of how it all goes together. its all supposed to be fun.
