Does the truck feel like its in 4wd? Binding and hopping as you turn on hard pavement? If your only clue is that the shaft is turning, I suspect that you are not really in 4wd. Try pulling the rear lever rearward, and drive around in a paved parking lot. It should feel a lot different if you are in 4wd.
