And met lots of scarred wood workers.
Jointers nibble off finer tips.
Table saws kick back, generally harmless shrapnel. Wear glasses, why be paranoid?
But I've met guys missing 1/2 a hand from radial armsaws. The two fingers remaining tend to get over worked. Give me shrapnel any day- and I've been to the ER more times than anybody I've ever met. More stitches than a hockey player. Seven surgeries to my hands, but I've still got all ten.
And I've owned one of the first designs- it worked backwards, arm slid in and out with the motor. Plus Sears, Delta/Rockwell, even a Comet 16". No radial armsaw is as accurate as any decent table saw. We finally eliminated our radial armsaw, and just used a Skilsaw to buck lumber to rough length.
But I was a fine furnituremaker, not a framer, needed the accuracy.
