OT: Kohler 14hp flathead rebuild

I am helping a friend, Cap'n Slappy rebuild his Kohler 14hp for a HI Cub Cadet tractor. Question is, do you use that spray copper gasket seal on the head gasket on a flathead? The head is aluminum. Also do you use a sealer on other areas like on the oil pan gasket or just the gasket? It's been quite awhile since I rebuilt a flathead. Getting it bored .020 over. The machine shop seemed up to the task, as they had a straight 8 Bugatti head in there for some work! There is an Inetnationally known Bugatti shop over in Berthoud... very cool to visit!

This engine has some things I have not seen before. 2 balance gears (weird 1/2 gears) that run off the crank timing gear. The Tractor pull / Kohler experts told us to chuck 'em, so we did. It also has a points ignition, coil and dual function starter/generator.
