WC-12 mystery part

I am restoring a WC-12 and have a part that I didnt label when disassembling and hope someone can tell me where it belongs.

It is a 1" diameter tube 27 1/4" long with a 1'2 rod inside that is threaded on both ends with washers and nuts on each end.

I thought I rememedered removing this from the top of the headboard and that it attached the bedsides to the headboard but obviously it is too short for that.
