Another sign of the times.

24 miles east of my home is the small village of Ticonderoga, NY, steeped in history from the French and Indian Wars and the Revolutionary War, with some of the old forts still standing. Walmart decided it was a good place to build a Walmart Super Center. Construction was started. Early in construction Subway Inc opened a small sandwich shop which is still doing well. Nearing completion, Duncan Doughnuts wanted a piece of the act so they built a beautiful Duncan Doughnuts. In less than a year Duncan Doughnuts closed. A few years ago, Lowes Inc decided to build a Lowes Store next to Walmarts. Lowes opened and appeared to be doing quite well, especially for up here in the Frozen Wilderness. Early this summer, Tractor Supply started construction on their new store, to open early fall.

This morning, wanting to buy a new freezer, I head to Lowes. Ooooops,
The Lowes Name is no longer on the Building nor was it on the log sign out on the road. You are being greeted by some Hire a Cop company in the parking lot and very nicely told that Lowes is Closed and will not reopen. A local store owner told me that Lowes closed on Sunday, not enough business. With no warning to employees !

Jobs are hard to find in the Mountains, now all of Lowes people are on the street.

Wonder whats going thru Tractor Supply's mind right now. Times are hard and probably going to get harder. Its well time to prudently manage your funds.

Paul
