Yes it will work. I have had 2 or 3 PWs with 8v batteries. If all is working well, and the wiring is not in trouble, go for it. If you have any wiring issues at all, you might want to consider rewiring the whole truck to 12 volt with an alternator. I did it with my '46 WDX last winter, thanks to enormous help from Paul, and it was really not that bad of a job.
