It looks like the notorious plastic drive gear has probably stripped out on the slant 6 in the mine tour trolley. Naturally it's the middle of the season and they need it all the time. I've never replaced a distributor on a slant 6, so before I mess it up, I'm asking for any advice anyone can give me. Any tricks to getting the old one out? Is it easy/tricky to get a rebuilt distributor back in the right way so the timing is correct without having to futz with it? What about just replacing the plastic drive gear? I've been reading on-line about there being various versions with the pin hole in different places, and some say you have to drill your own hole in the distributor shaft to match the hole in the gear (?!?!). Anybody here actually replaced a slant 6 distributor drive gear and can tell me how to do it right? Next step is to pull the old one and verify that's the problem.
