I thought the fuel pump on my M37 was bad a couple weeks ago, but it was just vapor lock. I let it cool with the hood up for half an hour, disconnected the outlet line from the pump, cranked it, and nothing came out, so I figured fuel pump for sure. Hiked out to town and next day, went up and towed the truck back. Went to work on it and it fired right up. That truck is missing the heat shield, and it was a hot sunny hillside where it quit on me and no breeze to help cool it. Also it still had winter gas in the tank. The moral is that the Dodge engineers included a heat shield for a reason. I'm missing the stud it attached to on the manifold, but will jerry-rig something, probably attached to a timing cover bolt in the front and tied to the manifold with bailing wire. So, before assuming it's the fuel pump, try it again in the morning when it's cold.
