Fuel Pump Question

Greetings....

So today I pulled the '54 out of it's house and let it run for a while in the yard. It ran great. After a while it was time to put it away, but noooooooooo......

Put it in reverse, hit the gas, and it died. After some invtigative work it was discovered that the mechanical fuel pump had failed. This was the 2nd OEM pump in about three years.

The guy at the parts store tells me that the modern day fuels are playing havoc with the old diaphragms. He says this is a repretitive and frequent issue.

I hate to trash the pump as it is most certainly the diaphragm. Anyone have ideas on where to find a rebuild kit for a Carter fuel pump? The parts guys says no one has them.

Is anyone else having this repeat pump problem? Anyone using an electric pump because of it?
