The oil filter question has been worked back and forth on forums for years. The bottom line is that the original design oil filters are no longer available.
The replacement filters, as you discovered, may not be a good fit. They are certainly not the same as the original design. It may be best to use an after market filter housing. Then, you will be able to get the correct filter, for sure.
