My very first PW - what year is it ? ?

As many years as I have been hanging around this forum, I have never owned a PW untill now. I purchased a local 46 WDX that good friends of my parents owned, and they used to plow the parking lot of the ski resort they owned, and then go over and run the rope tow with it.
The title says is a 48, but old registrations out of the 1960's say its a 46.
The VIN # is 8390137 - Can you guys tell by the VIN ? ?
