If you wanted to stay Mopar and keep it somewhat stock in appearance, you could add a vacuum brake booster, which many later PW's had that significantly helps the braking.
I added a Midland booster off a WM300 to my '52 B-3 PW. Driving it and then another PW without one, I noticed a big difference. I can lock my tires now in a panic stop. These boosters are for sale on the internet and by VPW, etc.
I also had my brake shoes arced to match the drums and thus improve the braking and adjusted them per the manual.
That said, I still think that power disc brakes like on a modern truck are still superior.
You can keep your winch (it should be an MU-2 I think). The NP420 (synchro) tranny has a different PTO than what you have currently on your crash box. Look on ebay and on this forum classified, etc and you can find one if patient, and install it on the NP420 before swapping the trannies.
