The welding supply outfits always recommend high price consumables.
I was the super in a fab shop with two shifts of 28 guys, we build construction equipment, belly dumps, rock crushers, conveyors.
I got to experiment with a lot of welding parameters. And costs.
The S6 wire is more money but it will eliminate spatter problems. The short arc gives you better control and penetration when you need it. We would even run it vertical up or down on heavy mild steel with equal success. Compare the price of co2 vs a mix. I use straight argon in my tigs.
