The challenge for solar and wind energy is to store the energy when it is dark and still. I've thought about linking the solar to batteries I already have in my shed-the ones in each vehicle. They could provide energy storage while keeping each one maintained. All you would need is a network of cables instead of buying additional batteries.
My favorite way to store solar energy is liquid fuel. Liquid fuel is the densest, safest, most economical way to store energy, especially for transportation and mobile uses. You don't need a solar panel to make it, just a plant that produces natural oil.
