Here in Fort Collins we have a stray female cat that lives in a woodpile in our backyard year-round. She's a good mouser(she likes to show us her "catch" on occasion). We used to have mice get in our garage and some vehicles, but haven't since she has been around. So we had her spayed and we feed her but she lives outside 24/7, 365. If the cat has access to the barn and you feed it there, it will probably find its own spot in there somewhere. I know they can be an issue for the birds but frankly I am quite grateful to not have to deal with the mice and some of my neighbors are too(they'd get the mice in their kitchen).
