I'd think the big issue would be what transmission you could bolt to the back of it? Not sure if one of the commercial transmissions that might normally be found behind it would work well for an on-road vehicle.
I took a marine diesel course and we got to play with a little 3 liter Volvo diesel. Nice little motor, I was thinking it would be great for re-powers in any number of vehicles, but you'd have to get a different exhaust manifold, and figure out what transmission could be bolted to it, and it wasn't turbo-charged so the power output was kind of low.
