No doubt it would work well for that. There should be a pto window on the passenger side that you could use for a rear drive for a hydraulic lift. They did make a weird little pto that fit on the back of the transfer case. I've attached a picture of one that I used to have.
I really hated to part with my 500, but I made a good trade to get the body and paint work on my WDX and some cash. The current economy's affects on the building industry wasn't allowing for another option at this time.
