The first car I remember my dad buying was a 1967 Chrysler New Yorker. I must have been 7 years old and was as excited about it as he was. I still remember the test drives, picking out all the options (remember how you used to be able to customize them?), and looking at other makes and models (one had an automatic headlight dimmer that I thought was neat). I knew it would go fast because I knew the Bat Mobile was a Chrysler. It was dark green and black. And yes, it had the 440. He traded in a 1965 Pontiac for it. 2 years later he traded the Chrysler in on a 1969 Oldsmobile 98 with a 455. he liked to spread the wealth around and he liked to buy a new car every 2-3 years. That was the last of his big cars before the gas shortage hit. He kept the Oldsmobile and bought a '74 Mustang II, which was a glorified Pinto, to save on gas. It was a real POS. About the same time he sold the '60 T-bird, which was real nice and which he'd promised would be mine when I was old enough to drive, to a guy who schmoozed him up at a gas station. Truth be told, I'd rather have had the New Yorker, even if all that was left of it today was the engine. That car could really get up and move, even with the automatic. It cornered about like an oil tanker, but on the straightaways it was fast.

Good luck on the resto project. I'd love to see pictures if you have any. Figure it'll get about 10 mpg and it wants ethyl. On one camping trip my dad had to pay 47.9 for ethyl and he called it "highway robbery". The Olds with the Kettering 455 was the same in terms of mpg but it didn't seem to have quite the pep. Maybe it was a heavier car.
