Summit Racing sells a flexible metal braided fuel line covering for heat shielding purposes. You would install it over the fuel line running from the fuel pump to the carb. It would not look that "odd".
In contrast, when I bought my M37 there was tin foil wrapped around this same section of fuel line held in place by clothes pins, to accomplish the same thing regarding vapor lock.
You may not have to do anything other than this.
