It is an ex Bell System truck. Most of the ones I have seen were 1955s. The frame reinforcement looks a lot like the one I had. Check out the registry for 83948609 to see another one I found.
Mine was 83948098 so your 83948418 serial is close to the same range.
The cab swap makes sense as there was a hole in the roof for looking out, and there were tons of extra holes in the cab for the controls. Or maybe someone screwed up and dropped the poles on the roof?
Check the body tag, I bet like Kevin says that will end up being early 1946, since the cab is off a totally different truck.
