The 36X12.5R16s Swampers are 36.2", which is ~ 575 rev/mile. That times 4.89 is 2812 rpm at 60 mph. The engine puts out 125 hp at 2800 rpm. The power drops off fast after governed rpm but even 2800 is about 59.75 mph. My guess is that it'll wind out to 2900 since under no load at all most diesels will go ~300 rpm faster than full load and the engine is NOT fully loaded with this particular gearing; mine reaches 2800 with 37" tires and a 0.799:1 5th gear with 4.89s. At 55 it's revving about 2580 rpm, perfectly safe for continuous running. Addition of an overdrive or a 5th gear, front disks and power steering will allow you to safely drive this truck on Interstates at 70 all day, maybe with earplugs. It will still creep at about 1.1 mph in low 1st, idling through mud, up steep hills and over rocks. With a lot more low end torque than the flathead, even after adjusting for gearing.
