What is the general concences on Lockers?
I am considering locking my 1947 PW but I want to carfully way my options before I do so.
I have a freind who is proficient at welding spider grooves and would weld the axles for $30 to $50 a axel. Have any of you had any experience with welded axels? How much does it improve things?
I was thinking of only locking the front since the light rear end may slide around to much in snow when traction is broken. How does this sound?
Or would it be better to try and find an air lock (if there is one for a PW) or detroit lockers? These would be very costly and not in my feasability for a long while.
How much harder is it to steer with lockers? I can handle it now quite well but...
Does the welded front end cause any problems with other things breaking? I have Warn hubs so I would assume that they should be able to take it. If I ever broke the gear or wanted to revert back are they terribly rare?
In my area we a wide variety of different 4-wheeling terrains changing with the seasons. I don't drive the truck much in town anymore, it is mostly a mountain truck these days.
