I know this is a PW site, and I have a 1962 WM300. I also have a 1987 F-250 Ford with a 6.9 liter diesel, four speed manual, 4X4. The engine has from 300 to 420 pounds compression, the shop that did the test said I need a new engine. I can't afford a new one. would the Perkins fit the Ford? I don't know much about diesels, I'm not a mechanic. Would I have to have different motor mounts? How about the linkages for fuel, etc.? What would have to be changed? Would it worth the cost to pay to have everything changed to put the perkins in? How much power does the perkins have compared to the 6.9 liter? The truck seems to be OK to me, it starts within four or five seconds on the coldest days, temps down to zero degrees, without being plugged in. I can't afford to buy anymore toys or trucks until I find out if I have to replace this engine. It seems to have good power, but it does smoke quit a lot. Mostly black, some blue. Someone suggested the valve guide seals (does that sound right?) may need to be replaced, and the injector pump may need to be calibrated. I have never heard of the Perkins. Are they a diesel engine manufacturer, or does someone else make them? What equipment or vehicles do they come in new? Thanks for any and all info in advance.
