Hot Wheels concept Power Wagon

Hey, gang --

I was in the toy store last night looking for a Matchbox Motor Trend PW to go with my Matchbox Texaco one (Alabama Al, I looked for a Texaco one for you, but no luck for either of us). Didn't find a "real" Power Wagon, but I did come across the new Hot Wheels 1:64ish version of the new concept Power Wagon. As a kid I preferred Matchbox cars to Hot Wheels products and still do (always thought Hot Wheels were a little too cartoonish), but the Hot Wheels concept PW is a fairly accurate depiction (probably because the real truck is pretty cartoonish).

Anyway, it was a buck twenty-nine, so I got myself one (couldn't resist the "Power Wagon" on the door).

While I am eating up Joe's bandwidth talking toys, there is also a really good 1:64ish World War II WC ambulance being put out by a company called Johnny Lightning. You can find the Johnny Lightning stuff with the Matchboxes and Hot Wheels (the military stuff is harder to find, in my experience). Until Ertl comes out with a 1:64 Dodge to pull my 1:64 Ertl trailer, my WC ambulance will have to be hauled to shows being pulled by my Ertl F-350 :-).

Johnny Lightning also has a series of A-100 "wheelstanders" that come with a little stand that lets them be displayed doing a wheelie -- I have Bill "Maverick" Golden's Little Red Wagon doing a wheelie on my desk. They also make a '78 "Little Red Express Truck," but I have only been able to find it in blue and in a white Post Office version. I'm hoping that this company will come out with a real Power Wagon in 1:64 scale in their trucks line. (I remember that someone on here was/is into Studebaker trucks -- there's a nice Johnny Lightning '60s Studebaker in the series.)

For those of you with Rams, JL also makes Walker, Texas Ranger's '96 (?) Ram in 1:64ish scale. This Johnny Lightning stuff generally runs in the $2-5 range (and I keep saying "1:64ish" because they are not all scaled exactly 1:64 -- my JL WWII jeep is nearly as big as my WWII Jimmy deuce).

I've seen this stuff in the toy stores (Toys 'R' Us, KB, etc) and in stores like Wal-Mart and K-Mart in the toy departments. A local toy store here sales the Johnny Lightning stuff at a considerable markup (the $8 range, which is pretty expensive for a car that would fit in some match boxes).

Besides the Matchbox PWs in various sizes and the First Gear models, do y'all know of other PW/WC/M37 toys/models out there (I know about the excellent M37 hand-made model that is $200 plus)?

Happy hunting for large and small PWs,

Land
