Let me start by telling you what it is doing. At idle, sounds great. Accelearting and decelerating, at low rpms, sounds great. High rpms gives a knock and when the engine is inbetween accelarating and engine breaking, it knocks. Also, little to no oil pressure.
I have been told by more than one person on this forum that it is probably a rod bearing. I am a little new to this. This is the bearing where the rod connects to the crank, correct?
These are low rpm motors and were engenered by guys that thought bigger was better. I think I can drop the oil pan, find the bad bearing and replace it without too much hastle.
I know it is not the best way to do it, but if it goes another 20,000 miles on this repair, that will be a life time for me.
Can any of you think of anything else I should look at first? Or second?
I wanted to repower it with a 6.2l diesel that I have, but if I can fix it that easy... I don't care if the diesel is more powerful, I want to drive the truck. My m-37 is already cool.
Would this cause the lack of oil pressure? If so, how?
Thanks in advance, you guys are tops in any book. A. Worth
