My intended use for the M37 is as a tough SOB for offroading for vacations, scenic photography, hunting and general exploration. I don't intend to compete in it. I just don't want to get somewhere and have to turn back because the truck won't make it, as is the case with many modern SUV's. The 318 is strictly for getting to 55 mph and a bit better reliability over the M37 fuel pump and carb/governor. (Doesn't mean I can't improve the 318 a bit though).

I'll be using a truck pan and rear oil pickup. I thought about a windage tray and may put one in. I may modify the pan with a swinging gate to trap oil in the sump and not let it flow forward during steep descents. (I've done that on racing engines, but in reverse so the oil doesn't flow backwards out of the sump during hard accelleration.)

I don't see any need to get rid of the stock points style distributer. With an extra set of points and a spare coil I can pretty much fix it anywhere. I don't care for electronic ignition. Even a spare distributer would be easy to carry and dirt cheap for a good used one.

As for the exhaust, I'm debating whther to run duals or, most likely, a single exhaust so I can run a fording exhaust stack for looks. That's the least of my worries right now.
