Gloss should look like a patent leather shoe, or in other words, always wet. It should reflect everything.

Semi-gloss should look like it is somewhat dull, like it needs to be waxed and polished. It should reflect only the brightest objects or lights.

Flat should look almost oxidized, with no reflection.

My 51 was painted in a much lighter color than 24087. It is almost a slightly darker and semi-gloss version of the late WWII 319 OD Flat. In fact, you can use 319 and darken it and shine it up with wax, and that almost matches the original paint. On top of that, I have several layers of 24087, and none of them are the same shade. So much for mil-spec being exact. And none match the current 24087 from Rapco, etc., which is much browner. My 240787's are definitely greener.

BTW, I have not found a number for the lighter green SG 319-like paint used on early M37's. Today's paint charts do not show it. I assume it was discontinued or superceded and dropped.
