Sorry this is a little wandering and long.

After going to the early mass, I made a decision to take MY old flatfender out for a Sunday spin. Blue sky, no clouds and around fifty degrees. So I loaded up the hound and headed out listen to the gearing hum.

As I ease on down the road, I notice a family in distress. There is a shiny new Land Rover SUV 4x4 stuck right in the middle of a temporary parking lot. But wait, another Ford SUV 4x4 has come to the rescue. I pull over, ponder, and wait.
Well now, there are two new SUVs stuck. Imagine that. I look at the Big O and she gives me the nod anyway, realizing this may cut into her time at the lake. As I pull up to the scene there is a crowd next door, all watching the story unravel.

As I pull up in my ORIGINAL 50's Power Wagon, scratched and scarred, all heads turn. From young to old, I see there faces, some wondering, some knowing. Getting out of the cab I walk over to the pair of stuck vehicles and offer my assistance. A quick response "Sure, which one you wanted to try first?". Hmmm. I walk around back and see that at least a good USA made chain has been used by the Ford. I tell the middle aged man that I will get you both. He smiles and says, "Yeah, ahh, okay".

Big O is no help in this process. After dancing in the mud, she jets back into the cab as I head back to MY truck. That 90 pound dog now weighs 95, mud included. Man, I need to remember to shut that door.

I proceed to carefully chain up to the vehicles, pull them out, unchain, return everything to its proper place and position. Even though the process may not be the quickest, it is deliberate. Everyone is happy. A couple kids walk up and ask about the truck. An older man finally walks up and tells a tale about a Power Wagon he used to drive building pipelines in the late forties. "Nothin' could stop that ol' Dodge". God, I love these trucks.

Now for the rest of the story.... The whole reason these folks got stuck was in their enthusiasm to obtain Krispy Kreme Donuts. They have yet to finish a decent size parking lot and we have had a good deal of rain this early winter. I had yet to try one of these donuts. But as I took off my gloves, the wife of one of the stuck SUV drivers handed a dozen in a box and a large black coffee.

Oh yeah....what is happiness? Enjoying a warm Krispy Kreme donut, driving My ORIGINAL Power Wagon, windshield regultor wide open on a beautiful blue sky day and having my face licked by the world's muddiest dog.

I was going to sell this truck. I guess I should thank the would be buyer for not having the sense to follow through. But really I want to thank a wise individual (who shall remain anonymous) who finally made me realize that original is only one time. Thanks buddy.
