Obviously too late for this house, but if you ever build another, pre-finish the siding on both sides before installing. Use a small foam brush to coat any cuts you make. The majority of the houses we build get natural cedar and it's pre-finished with Pratt and Lambert Rustic Penetrating Stain. Of course, I am in Idaho. If you are on the coast somewhere, with salt air and heavy sun exposure, you might want to use a more solid pigment stain. But pre-finishing both sides is definitely the way to go.
