I have a rolling chasis that has all been coated with POR-15, diffs, springs, etc. and have had no pealing, cracking of any sort and that was eleven years ago. I will say it has been inside that whole time and not out in the elements.
I believe your problem was as someone else mentioned, your prep not the PIOR-15.
